summary: "Daniel Comp (Vietnam-era Navy veteran, recovering quadriplegic, three-time cross-country cyclist, former tech-company owner) personally invites 'noble veterans' who feel deep commitment to God, Country, Community, Family, and their own mental health to a small-group conversation at the Army National Guard Classroom in The Dalles, Oregon on February 16, 2023. He shares his lived experience of chaos, worldview manipulation, and the journey to self-understanding, positioning the evening as the start of a year-long Personal Everest expedition. (Note: Despite weeks of face-to-face marketing and local promotion with seating for 200, only 7 veterans attended—those who came did so to support Daniel’s work at the urging of Mike Knopf of Pointman Ministries.)"
keypoints:
  - "Noble veterans carry a unique responsibility to heal division, deliver help, and care for others—yet they themselves often need space to make sense of chaos and shed accumulated baggage."
  - "Human thinking is remarkably vulnerable to being gamed, hacked, and bamboozled through storytelling and information—Daniel discovered this through decades in technology and his own life-altering injuries."
  - "The greatest expedition is the journey to self-understanding; physical and mental challenges (glacier fall, quadriplegia, three bicycle crossings of America) forced Daniel to ask 'why the heck I did what I did.'"
  - "A small-group conversation with fellow men of valor provides the peer support and discipline required to begin a year of transformation."
  - "Veterans are invited to explore possibilities together and 'get the heck out of Scotomaville' through deliberate, face-to-face community."

### Original YouTube Description

If you feel a deep sense of commitment to God, Country, Community, Family, and your personal mental health and longevity, then consider this invitation to explore the challenge of a Personal Everest with a small group of supportive men of valor from across the Columbia River Gorge, specifically at the Army National Guard Classroom, in The Dalles, Oregon. Veterans have a special place in healing division, delivering help, and caring for others. This expedition is to help heal those Veterans, especially those wounded, coping with meaning, chaos, and the social attitude toward nobility and valor. As the Author/Curator of Scotomaville, I hold a deep respect for fellow Veterans, their families, businesses, and community. This program will make sense of chaos, the strategies dividing our relationships, and the road ahead for all participants. **Daniel:**
I’m Daniel Comp. I’m the author and the curator of the Scotomaville trilogy.

And this is an invitation for you to join me in a small group of noble veterans for a conversation about a journey of a lifetime—an expedition. Let me explain.

I am a Vietnam-era Navy veteran. I was foolish enough to fall off a glacier and become a quadriplegic. I then decided to bicycle across America three times because I needed to know why the heck I did what I did. I discovered some very interesting things.

And over the decades that I owned the technology company I learned about how easy it is to game, to hack, to bamboozle—the long con—humans, to narrow their worldview with storytelling, with information. And I learned about how vulnerable my own thinking is. You know what that feels like.

Last few years you face challenges, found more chaos than you can imagine, and have wondered how the hell do I get out of this.

If you’re a noble veteran—someone who cares deeply about God, Country, your community, your family, about your own well-being and longevity—this is for you. It’s an opportunity to have a conversation with a small group of men, to consider a year of transformation.

If you’re ready to make some sense out of the chaos, shed some of the baggage that you’ve been carrying…

Join us for a conversation about taking a Personal Everest, about being part of an expedition of a lifetime. Come to the Army National Guard classroom in The Dalles, Oregon, Thursday February 16th from 6:30 to 8 pm.

And let’s explore some possibilities of helping you get the heck out of Scotomaville.

**MA5 Domain:** Initium
**Summary:** Daniel invites noble veterans to a small-group conversation at the Army National Guard Classroom in The Dalles as the launch point for a year of Personal Everest transformation. (Despite extensive local marketing, only 7 veterans attended—those who came supported Daniel’s work at the direction of Mike Knopf of Pointman Ministries.)
**Key Insight:** Veterans who have served others must first create safe space among fellow “men of valor” to process chaos, shed baggage, and reclaim self-understanding before they can continue healing division in their communities.
**Narrative Significance:** This invitation concretizes the “Tests, Allies, Enemies” phase by moving from broad summit/retreat announcements to an intimate, geographically local gathering—revealing both the hunger for community and the real-world friction of convening it—while modeling the very vulnerability Daniel teaches.
