### Cleaned Transcript

**Daniel:**
I'm Daniel Comp. I'm the author and curator of the Scotomaville series.

I'm also the proud parent of three fabulous adults and two children that have passed.

I'm a Vietnam era Navy veteran. I'm a self-diagnosed highly functional Asperger.

I was a knucklehead. I fell off a glacier and broke my neck. I've been nearly four decades working as an entrepreneur, the last two in the information technology industry where I earned eight world records for IT production.

My wife and business partner Angelina Musik had filled her wall with accolades with recognition. After winning two of the Small Business Administration Champion of the Year awards, she was slated to appear on Apprentice 3.

And just five days before filming, she suffered a traumatic brain injury which ended everything that we were working on. I didn't know how to deal with that. I didn't know what to do. We had lost everything.

I started seeing things in my character that I wasn't so happy about. I really wanted to know why I did what I did. Fortunately, our relationship was strong enough that Angelina trusted me to go find myself, to go figure out why I did what I did.

On the same day Lance Armstrong rode into Paris for the final time, a cyclist from Seattle rode into the Twin Cities for the first time. Daniel Comp is traveling cross country on his bike to raise awareness for women in business. The longtime cyclist got the idea after his wife was injured in a bad car crash. She was an entrepreneur and he's riding in honor of her.

I had some of the most fabulous experiences that are to this day hard to communicate because they seem to involve things that I was not in control of. I believe that we don't see things the way they are. We see things the way we are. We build a world around us through our cognitive biases and none of that seemed to explain what was going on in me.

Two years ago I had an unction to create a guide to help myself and others find their way up their personal Everest. You see, to challenge their beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors. And so I started creating Volume 1 of Scotomaville.

And then you know it, that's when the lockdown started with COVID. It was really amazing for me to go through Volume 1 and be able to describe the mental tools that I had found very useful and reliable, trustworthy if you will, ways of seeing things for what they really are and not for what I imagined them to be.

I'm just finishing Volume 2 which is actual examples of real events where I apply the tools. So what are you doing? What am I doing? I'm putting the… this is only a test.

Scotomaville is more than a guidebook to awareness. It's more than the tools. It also is guidance and peer support and one-on-one support for your personal Everest.

If you're way too familiar with triggers and outbursts from squalls and interruptions and things that disappoint and hardships and losses and depression and addictions and all of that emotional journey with all of its facets and flavors, then I want to invite you on the greatest expedition you will ever undertake. And that is the journey to self-understanding.

I am now on another expedition for Volume 3 — a tour across America to find brave men who will face their Everest and their challenges. Small clusters of guys to help each other conquer those things that ail them.

**Daniel:**
(visual demonstration of an optical illusion)
Oh another one. All right yeah you're getting it. So that was a good move.

Yeah go on back. So that's called a scotoma. Okay that's a blind spot.

This is an illusion. Yes it's just a simple illusion. But when I tell an emotional story, our brains connect up and I can mislead you. I can guide you down a pathway that's not true.

The way it works is that our brains are tuned to protect our body. Our brain goes “that sounds important, don't step on this thing it will blow up on you.”

I'd like to invite you to summit your own personal Everest and be a part of Volume 3. Drop me a note, leave a comment, text me. I really look forward to connecting with you and giving you not just the awareness but helping you with the discipline through guidance and support and getting the heck out of Scotomaville.

Thanks for watching.
