**Daniel:**
Welcome back to another reflection video of Scotomaville and this is all about your gut. It’s number 11.

You know the point of the reflection videos is for me to look back so that you can look forward. But at the same time I am reviewing the progress I’ve made up my Personal Everest. That’s pretty important. That’s the supporting evidence — the onus probandi — of self-reflection video modeling. I didn’t even know about that when I started. I had no idea. I thought it was pretty trick to use two cameras. Well it was, but in this case I now have the understanding and the discipline from which to speak with authority. Whereas before I was very suspicious. I had strong belief. Now I have the evidence and I can really say to you: follow in the way by which I began.

When it comes to issues of your gut you’ve got to be curious. The hell… what’s going on? Oh man have I got a freaking leak?

If you’re not curious you won’t even look into it. See, as it turns out that dripping is from the AC. That’s condensation. You see if you’re not curious you won’t pay attention. You won’t become aware. You certainly won’t gain understanding.

In this reflection video I want to give you encouragement by providing you with my hindsight — that is a few years now of strong discipline which has become easier and easier as I incrementally made changes to my diet, to my sleep, to my stress, the water, a little play time sexually that Angelina and I share, and the awareness of my number two and how it changes with what I stick in — particularly I’m aware of cravings and outcomes.

I can say it with authority because my journey all began with a small comment my daughter had made about that glass of orange juice: “Dad that’s like half a dozen or more oranges. You wouldn’t normally eat that. That’s way too much sugar.” And as it turns out when you really start looking you’re gonna find 19 grams of sugar in a small thing of applesauce or yogurt or in that little guzzle drink that you just took.

That was one of the toughest battles in managing my gut health — kicking sugar. It’s an addiction. That the normal is always having to go up and trying to bring it back down meant lots and lots of loops and failures just like on a mountain bike going around in the woods, right? You have to bail out frequently and try again. I’ve done that.

I want to encourage you that if you’ve got that tire around your belly and as I said in this episode you don’t see your shoes — you see your gut — I want to encourage you that it’s one of the most fabulous outcomes that you can hope for. And that is that you can become aware that it’s your choice, not your destiny to be overweight.

I step on the scale today — I’m the same weight that I was in high school. Wasn’t like that for most of my life. I was always five to ten pounds over my ideal. But as it turns out that was simply my liver backed up with the molecules — the tiny tiny little things that I had let go through without having awareness of. Caseomorphins from milk, right? Opioids. Oh you don’t know yet? Oh yeah that’s coming. That is coming. Uh self-care — jump ahead to that one.

I discovered that I could cleanse my liver just like I can dump Arnie. I could take a physician-managed detox — Orthomolecular is the brand that we use — and I do that annually now because the first time that I did that I was shocked. The amount of headaches I had the first two or three days, how I dealt with fasting was horrible. Three years later — skip a meal, no big deal.

Our meals now sustain us and I don’t mean by volume. I mean by the nutrient density and our gut wellness so that if we eat eight-nine in the morning we’re not even hungry one or two in the afternoon but we’ll have our salads and main dish in the afternoon.

What I’m getting to in this is that those small changes came about from awareness. Now look what I just had to finish doing and I can show you what you’ll soon be doing — paying more attention to your number two.

It may seem kind of gross but paying attention to what’s coming out is really important. It’s a reflection of what you’re putting in plus what’s going on. As Graham used to say: you are not what you eat. You are what you digest.

Let’s think about a liver detox, a liver flush, and see what happens. You simply restrict the amount of solid foods going in for a couple of days, a few days, and then slowly introduce other safe items on your good lists. And your liver has a chance to get rid of stuff that’s been hanging around your waistline, stuff that’s been collecting over time.

Slowly but surely off comes that troublesome tire around your waist. I lost the 10 pounds in about 10 days and I haven’t put it on since. I do an annual detox just to be sure.

I had a kidney stone — you’ll see in upcoming episodes — that showed that there was a little excess oxalates. So I restricted the arugula and spinach and other things that I was consuming a lot of that I thought were good healthy but as it turned out not so healthy for certain parts of the body.

Eventually things start coming out a little better, a lot cleaner, a lot healthier. They don’t stink as much, they’re not as putrid, they’re not as weird colored. And you start going “Hmm I’m feeling a little better.” It becomes easier to eat good things and to say no to junk food.

That’s not meaning I don’t like a little piece of pizza or some ice cream or a burger once in a while. But I can tell the gain of weight the next day and a change in the outflow. And when you see a difference, a change — take note of it. You’ll start recognizing things are not quite right. I gained a pound from those corn chips last night. Boy was that beer nice but you know what? The three of them together — I’m just not the same today.

Paying attention is really good.

So to recap: you’ll see in another episode Stuart Varney said that history is a fabulous teacher if you’re paying attention. Well in this case controlling what goes in through your mouth, controlling when you flush it, and how often you check your dump — that will give you a great deal of insight, of awareness, understanding, and discipline.

The takeaway from this is that inflammation is not healthy. It shouldn’t be your norm. With me I just had that nagging 10 pounds and it wouldn’t come off no matter how many miles I cycled or how much exercise I got. And so I became curious, right? I wanted to know why was that happening.

And when I learned — not just awareness but I started understanding the way that my gut affected my clarity and the choices in my head were based on the biology, the volume that I had in my gut — and that I could do something about it. Once I started making that change it became easier and easier and easier.

And now that our diet is almost entirely from our superfoods list or from the non-lectin list from Dr. Gundry and things that you’ll be learning coming up — now that we’re disciplined in that it’s so much easier. I actually desire or have a craving, if you will, for good foods. And if I’m really like in a hurry — oh my gosh I gotta eat something because we’re gonna be late, we gotta go to something — well I just throw some green spirulina into an apple sauce and take a hit of sugar from that but at least it’s like “Oh wow that’ll take over two hours in just a few moments.” And some green tea and managing my molecules in awareness to the little things made a huge difference.

I really want to encourage you to make that transition in your Personal Everest. So if when you look down you have belly fat and not your shoes apparent, if you’ve got that nagging bulge around your center line or it’s even hanging over and got a fold right over the top of your pants — I really want to suggest that you can do something about that. I have. You can follow me.

It starts with awareness. Recognize what you’re putting in and what you’re craving and recognize that it’s not the big things that you’re being satisfied with or that mouth-around fullness or that flavor and sensation and the density of the sugar or salt or fat. Those are all tricks on you. Those are all shortcuts given to your brain to produce that mesolimbic uptake — that good feeling that you’re having from the caffeine or the chocolate or all of the other the opioid kind of chemicals or you’re getting lectins in your diet from the way you were raised — habits, right? Rice, beans, seeds and everything.

When you realize change is made at a molecular level, the change you need to make is on a small tiny little level. It’s not ginormous. It’s little by little. Change the populations in your gut. Add the ones that are supposed to be there that are not with a probiotic and a prebiotic to feed all of that. Make those small changes and you’ll see at first the changes that you’re gonna make. It’s hard to tell. Driving here we had to go through some storms and I saw in the rear view camera to Arnie that a good example of what it was like — it’s hard to tell what’s going on. It’s hard to see when you first begin. You’re going down the road and you think what you should be seeing is feedback right away but it’s not. It’s cloudy. It’s messy. It’s a blurry unknown event.

Eventually though the view will clear up. The camera will become clearer. You’ll have better hindsight on what you ate and what you want to put in the next time. Those changes will be more like “You know instead of this thing going in I think I’m going to skip the corn chips. How about if I put it on a little bit of lettuce?” Small, small changes over time really give you a much better view down the road for your longevity.

A little science to encourage you is that if it’s correct on the videos I’ve watched lately the inside of your intestinal lining can be repaired in three to seven days. The cells regenerate in your entire body over a seven year period but in your gut the cells there regenerate within a week or less.

So when you get hammered by glyphosate or a toxin of some kind and you’re totally out of it — it only takes a few days to get better. This is a much more modern view of the same structure. So here you see a villus. You see many other villi in the background. This is equipped with Lieberkühn or about eight to ten or so that’s around the base of the villus. Cells are constantly being produced by then enigmatic stem cells that reside somewhere near the base of the crypt. Their daughters very rapidly proliferate. They take two days to reach the exit of the crypt. They then differentiate out into one of the number of cell types that you see here. They move up the villus and about four or five days after they are born they reach the tips of the villi that you see here and they undergo apoptosis. They commit suicide.

And so that should encourage you that you can regenerate your biome. You regenerate your gut health in short order — a lot faster than your brain will grow the dendrites. So that hopefully will be encouragement for you to make changes starting here with “You know what? I’m going to just try this or change that or substitute this for that” or at least be aware that what I’m sticking in is on the lectin list or it’s in some way connected to the emotions and not to the real need of the molecule.

Okay, you can regenerate your gut much faster than you can create the dendrites. Give that one a try.

That’s enough for this reflection video. I trust there’s something in there for you as encouragement for me because I’ve seen myself get the heck out of Scotomaville. You can do the same.

See you next episode.
