summary: "Daniel reflects on Volume 1 Episode 10 (Creating Silence) after relocating from the noisy Columbia Gorge to a quiet snow park at the base of Mount Hood. He demonstrates how constant noise pollution and mental interference shut down clairvoyance and inner listening, while deliberate environmental resets (changing location) restore perspective, allow dendrites to grow, and enable clear decision-making on major life choices such as purchasing land for a Base Camp."
keypoints:
  - "Noise pollution and unending mental interference reduce clairvoyance and the ability to hear one's inner voice for important decisions"
  - "Creating silence — through physical relocation, pausing, or 72-hour processing time — is essential for reconnecting awareness with intuition"
  - "Conversational implicature can hide real scotomas (e.g., 'ambitious entrepreneurs' as polite rejection of development in quiet places)"
  - "Changing one's environment is a practical strategy for gaining new perspective and escaping fixation on chaos"
  - "Trusting the invisible world and accepting that 'constant change is here to stay' allows pivoting with confidence on your Personal Everest"

### Original YouTube Description

Noise pollution, unending mental interference, and constant demands for your attention will shut down your listening capacity, and leave you confused, aimless, and weary. Leaving your chaos bubble for a place of quiet greatly helps reconnect your inner voice with your awareness, and confidence. In this REFLECTION video on the v1 Episode of Creating Silence, Daniel demonstrates how difficult it is to navigate decisions with unending background noise. Fortunately living full-time in an Airstream allows us to reset our environment, and points out how the PNW has come to chaos - or is it that chaos has come to the PNW? Three days of effort change everything and present a scotoma regarding conversational implicature. It seems the fiduciary responsibility of real estate agents may be compromised by self-interest or self-protection. Ambitious Entrepreneurs are not welcome in quiet places - and maybe for good reason. Getting out of Scotomaville includes changing one's mind and accepting change - even when trying to buy land to create a base camp. **Daniel:**
Deciding when enough is enough and it’s time to take the trash out… but I’m getting ahead of myself. Let me back up.

You see, silence is not just about having quiet. Silence is about being able to hear what’s going on inside so that you can decide where to go.

Welcome back to Scotomaville and this is the reflection video for Episode 10 on silence. More accurately it’s my reflection back on noise — on the awareness of the lack of awareness.

When I cycled across America three times, every time I came to an urban core out of the country I sensed the lack of clairvoyance. A similar experience was reported by the astronauts in leaving the Earth’s atmosphere and heading toward the moon. They said that as they got away from the atmosphere of the Earth the engineers said “Oh well it’s probably the oxygen-rich atmosphere combined with weightlessness.” But I sensed the same thing and I spoke with astronaut Charlie Duke — Apollo 16 rover and lunar module commander — about his experience and about my experiences across the country and he confirmed that being away from the prince of the power of the air was a liberating experience because you could hear your sense of intuition. You could make decisions with clairvoyance. You could decide on important matters much quicker. There was far less distraction.

You will undoubtedly face large choices — career, business or marital partner, parenting options, all sorts of purchases as we are doing with land and a Base Camp, a retreat center, in which state based on current events. You will find numerous challenges on your Personal Everest: relocating, changing the set, dealing with obstacles, noise, interference, bad choices. The necessity of silence for me — and I believe for you — is in order to hear and understand that still small inner voice.

I’ve called it an unction. I’ve called it being compelled. In order to have that clarity to pivot — as Marcus Aurelius would say — to see the obstacle as the way and to have a sense of confidence that’s the way to go requires silence. Sometimes that means going up on a mountain as we just did. Sometimes that means waiting 72 hours for the dendrites to grow. And many times it simply means pausing.

You’re going to find in many of the upcoming episodes on strategy that we talk about the game of Hoppers. It’s a collaborative game unlike chess which is competition. You may find most of the world wants to put you in a competitive kind of situation — adversarial mandates as you have seen for the last almost three years with COVID. Maintaining your independence or escaping your current dependence for an independent lifestyle requires responsibility. So you’ll move from awareness of someone else’s agenda to the discipline through the avenue of understanding. And as those dendrites grow and as you become clear on your direction in spite of distractions, in spite of things not being optimal, you’ll be able to relax and accept inbound gusts of wind.

As you’ll notice in other episodes I had a hard time dealing with — especially when combined with my expectation of the way things are going.

I want to encourage you by example that things may not be the way you want them to be but you can choose independence — like a backpack I guess — by taking on the responsibility of your choices and looking for those opportunities, finding whatever quiet that you need, whatever lack of distraction that you might be able to get and then sometimes just pausing. Taking the time for the dendrites to grow. Trusting that there is more going on in the invisible world than you could possibly understand — coordinate, synchronize, and dance with. And so sometimes you just have to step back, step aside, pivot, do a back move, a side move, Time Out.

So I want to encourage you: your Personal Everest is just one of the greatest expeditions you will ever undertake and it will get you the heck out of Scotomaville.

We’ll see you next episode and we are off to Texas.

**Daniel (postscript):**
Oh my gosh… quite literally woken up to the sound of nothing. Oh my gosh. Nothing. The sound of nothing. How nice.

This is a postscript to the reflection video. It’s also onus probandi — you’ll become familiar with that — the burden of proof is on the claimant.

You might also like my background. I thought that was very fractal. We’ve come a few days’ drive from the Pacific Northwest where in Kansas on a lake in the quiet we can hear.

I might have mentioned that on my trans-Americas as I cycled into an urban core I lost my ability to listen. And even now when we drive away and we get out of that bubble of chaos, out of that realm of the prince of the power of the air — Scripture would call it — as we have more than 72 hours for our dendrites to make up connections and map new insights, a scotoma comes to us this morning.

We’ve had numerous — well over seven — offers countered with unacceptable or passed to someone else and we understand the most recent being labeled as “ambitious entrepreneurs.”

Let me show you my bot on Scotomaville. You see, conversational implicature: when somebody says “Whoa, that’s a beautiful frame” as they look at the art in a museum, what they’re saying is “That’s a pretty ugly picture.” When somebody labels you an ambitious entrepreneur they might be saying — implying — “Wow, you’re a busy beaver” or “I don’t like noise, construction, development, people visiting. Don’t bring your bubble into our part of the world.”

So acquiring homes or land or a place where you feel that you fit may present numerous challenges for you to overcome, as it has us. You may feel that you’re not of this planet or that there’s just a disconnect you can’t label.

I’d really encourage you: take the time, go to where it’s quiet, listen, look for the scotoma. We have works with us and we are the heck out of Scotomaville.

**Date:** August 19, 2022
**File:** SCOTOMAVILLE 01.10 - Creating Silence REFLECTION
**Monomyth Stage:** 09 - The Reward
**Gameboard Position:** Camp 4: The Reward / Summit
**MA5 Domain:** Initium
**Summary:** Daniel reflects on the necessity of creating silence after escaping the noisy Columbia Gorge, demonstrating how environmental resets restore clairvoyance and inner listening for major decisions such as land purchase. He reveals a scotoma around conversational implicature when labeled “ambitious entrepreneurs.”
**Key Insight:** Silence is not merely the absence of noise — it is the space required to hear the still small inner voice, grow dendrites, and make confident pivots on your Personal Everest.
**Narrative Significance:** This reflection shows the lived practice of earlier tools (onion peeling, abundant awareness, diffuse mode) in real-time decision-making, proving that changing one’s environment is itself a powerful mental tool for exiting Scotomaville.
