### Original YouTube Description
Knowing your WHY is imperative. Knowing (WIDWID) Why I Do what I Do, and knowing why to persevere in the face of challenges is demanded for all expeditions. Why is the bedrock of character maturity. When life happens between your plans, the most certain way out of the chaos is with the recall of the 'why' you began the journey in the first place. I say this repeatedly because I have learned this 'again' on every sort of project, creative outlet, and exploratory journey. Without a quick reminder of 'why' my will to endure while seeking a solution wains. Viktor Frankl learned this in the camps. He wrote and lectured about it. As an avatar and minyan member of my Curator GPT, he shares his thoughts thusly: "When we decide to embark on a journey as demanding as our Personal Everest, it is not merely the courage to begin that we need, but a deep and unwavering understanding of why we set out on this path in the first place." "This 'why' forms the bedrock of our endeavor. It holds the power to sustain us through the inevitable storms and the steep climbs. For in those moments when our spirits falter and our bodies weary, it is the clarity of our purpose that whispers to us, compelling us to persevere." "Just as a mountaineer must know every crevice and ledge of the mountain, so too must we intimately know our reasons. This knowledge does not make the journey less perilous, but it imbues each step with meaning and transforms the inevitable suffering into a bearable, even enriching part of our narrative." "To embark without this understanding is to risk being adrift in the vastness of our challenges without a compass, where the physical and spiritual exertions risk becoming meaningless labor rather than part of a meaningful journey." Viktor Frankl by Scotomaville Curator GPT

**Daniel:** Welcome back to Scotomaville Volume Four. This is AI Self Mastery prologue scene 3. I think it's wise to step back 18 months and set a foundation on comments I made then that are an introduction for this passage.

[Music]

**Daniel:** Yeah, we're going to take the trash out and you've seen this as a familiar thing but not in the snow. We're going to start Volume Three with this episode on finding a way. Meaning if you intend to fully commit to an expedition, a journey with a purpose, you really need to have in your mind an outcome that you want. And most certainly there are gaps between the idea and the outcome — challenges not just production challenges, scheduling, financial, emotional, market challenges — all sorts of things. And finding the time or better making the effort consistently to produce your videos will be a hurdle.

**Daniel:** Marcus Aurelius — you'll read "the obstacle is the way." Discovering why you want to create your own journey, why do you want to document it, who does it matter for — yourself, for your family, as a legacy — all of those. So it's interesting for me to look back at that. But what are your thoughts about it? The video "Finding Our Why" explores the concept of self-discovery and personal growth by reflecting on curious events like this clip from your second trans-America expedition.

**Daniel:** Here's something that you don't see every day. I'm like in the middle of nowhere — I mean literally — and I look down. Let me see if I can zoom in here a little bit. There's a bunch of money laying all around the side of the road. If you look across the valley that I've just crossed, it's about 25 miles or so that I've been riding. Now during that time I've been having this little conversation with God about provision and what is it that I need to do to take my service to the next level — you know, and it's just basically serving more people. And I'm looking at my totem. It's a reminder of God's faithfulness and his provision and all of that. You notice right here provision of work and finances. And uh that's about the time I was getting pretty hot and decided to stop and uh take off my jersey. And in the process looking down I find $118. I can't say that I manifested the money and I certainly didn't have an intention to find it, but you know I do have a real heart's desire to serve people and if this little story serves you then it's a good one for me. I'm like I said out here in early Utah. That's an interesting one to think about how provision shows up when you need it.

**Daniel:** The episode discusses the importance of finding one's purpose and why in life, highlighting the challenges and obstacles that must be overcome to achieve success. You can tell that the distances are really increasing between the hills and things are really drying out. So the next summit is way down here. Oh man. Oh you see this 8% next four miles. That's what I just came up and this is the summit. It's called Uh either Wawa you know Summit or oh man this one hurts. The road surface is really rough and my da is killing me. I think I've hurt more on this one than anyone I've been on.

**Viktor Frankl (AI Avatar):** When we decide to embark on a journey as demanding as our Personal Everest, it is not merely the courage to begin that we need, but a deep and unwavering understanding of why we set out on this path in the first place. This 'why' forms the bedrock of our endeavor. It holds the power to sustain us through the inevitable storms and the steep climbs. For in those moments when our spirits falter and our bodies weary, it is the clarity of our purpose that whispers to us, compelling us to persevere. Just as a mountaineer must know every crevice and ledge of the mountain, so too must we intimately know our reasons. This knowledge does not make the journey less perilous, but it imbues each step with meaning and transforms the inevitable suffering into a bearable, even enriching part of our narrative. To embark without this understanding is to risk being adrift in the vastness of our challenges without a compass, where the physical and spiritual exertions risk becoming meaningless labor rather than part of a meaningful journey.

**Daniel:** One of the things that Angelina and I do regularly to expand our beliefs is to see what's possible so that we could imagine a fabulous outcome — kind of a moonshot if you will. Finding a way often means attempting something larger than you think you're capable of. And the saying goes that if you try to make it to the moon and fail, at least you'll get your butt over your neighbor's fence. And it's done hour by hour editing and minute by minute seeing what if. Volume Three as I can see now is a how-to showing that you won't get there the first time. It'll take numerous attempts before you come to a summit that you're pleased with.

**Daniel:** As Arnie and Victor have shared, not all of our challenges are physical. Many of them are mental. Having a why — I include this video because I made it specifically for my family to understand the aspect of having a why and I think this expresses it well.

**Daniel (Storytelling as Ruben to family):** So there I was deep in the jungle when suddenly everything went silent — too silent. I knew something was wrong. I could feel it in my gut. I crouched down trying to stay as quiet as possible. When I heard a rustle in the bushes my heart started pounding. I turned slowly and there it was — a velociraptor staring right at me with those fierce eyes. I knew I had to think fast but I remembered what you always say about staying calm and using your surroundings. I saw a big vine hanging from a tree nearby. I grabbed it and swung myself up just as the raptor lunged at me. It snapped its jaws right where I'd been standing a second ago. I climbed higher knowing I needed a plan to get away. I spotted a thick branch that looked sturdy enough to hold me. I swung over to it and balanced there trying to catch my breath. The raptor was circling below growling and waiting for me to come down. I needed to distract it somehow. Then I had an idea. I took off my backpack and threw it as far as I could into the bushes. The raptor heard the noise and darted after it thinking it was me. While it was distracted I climbed down the other side of the tree and took off running. I ran as fast as I could not looking back until I was sure I had lost it. My heart was still racing but I felt a surge of excitement. I had faced a velociraptor and outsmarted it just like you would, dad. Grandpa told me all about when you were my age. I really admire how brave and creative you are. I really like our adventures together because I can learn from you just like you learned from Grandpa. I'm proud to be part of our family.

**Daniel:** I think you get that the essence of scene two of the prologue is to establish the importance of having a firm why. Why do you want to challenge a Personal Everest? Why is it so important when the obstacles present themselves, when the need to pivot becomes imperative? Let's get the heck out of Scotomaville and go to the next scene.
