summary: "Daniel Comp explains the deeper meaning behind the 360MEN logo he designed, using the Four Stages of Competence (unconscious incompetence → conscious incompetence → conscious competence → unconscious competence) learned from glider flying as the foundational metaphor. The logo’s ‘360’ symbolizes ‘a few good men’ surrounding you like a peer group, with the ‘6’ shown both padlocked and unlocked to represent how brothers help unlock your internal compass toward purpose, passion, mission, and ultimately Maslow’s self-actualization. He demonstrates the messiness of real learning by filming in real-time despite dying phone battery, broken tripod, dead light, forgotten Maslow term, and impending departure — all while Angelina searches for flip-flops — to illustrate that learning is awkward, iterative, and benefits enormously from peer support and feedback."
keypoints:
  - "The 360MEN logo embeds the Four Stages of Competence: learning begins in unconscious incompetence and progresses through conscious awareness to effortless unconscious competence"
  - "‘360’ stands for ‘a few good men’ (one, two, a few) who surround and support each other, unlocking direction, passion, mission, purpose, and self-actualization"
  - "The ‘6’ in the logo is deliberately shown both padlocked and unlocked, symbolizing how peer wisdom removes internal locks and opens the compass of a man’s life"
  - "Real learning is messy and full of friction — dying batteries, broken gear, forgotten terms, technical workarounds, and life interruptions — yet failing forward with peer feedback accelerates growth"
  - "360MEN exists to provide that masculine peer group so men can reframe triggers, improve their stories, receive honest feedback, and syndicate hard-won wisdom instead of struggling alone"

Tone blends thoughtful explanation with self-deprecating honesty about the messiness of creation, perfectly modeling the very process he describes."

### Original YouTube Description
Daniel Comp talks about the 360MEN logo he created and how it relates to the end-goal of feeding men with authentic wisdom and building a corpus for the emerging AI (so it's not gender neutral). You can see that the learning process is messy and that going from unconsciously incompetent to consciously competent is a process of failing 'forward'. Being surrounded by A Few Good Men will help you unlock the compass to get better directions towards self-actualization. **Daniel:**
I was thinking today that I wanted to explain the logo for 360MEN to you. And while I created that, I put a lot of thought into it, so I'll give you a shot of it here.

Before I explain it too much, let me give you a little bit of a story. I learned to fly gliders — you know, those big airplanes without motors in them, right? Crazy. When I first learned, the theory seemed to be pretty easy — to be able to go fly one. But the first thing that I learned is that I was unconsciously incompetent. In other words, I needed to learn how bad I was.

And as soon as I tried to pull back on the stick and lift it off the runway following the tow plane, I learned — oh my gosh — and I switched from that first awkward unknowing to becoming consciously incompetent. Now I knew how bad I was. I really sucked. I had a hard time following the glider plane.

But as I practiced more and more with the instructor, I was soon able to box the wake — it's when you fly around in a big square behind the tow plane and you pull to the outside for quarters — and I became consciously competent. I was aware that I was pretty good, but you know it wasn't until I racked up a bunch of hours that I was able to become unconsciously competent.

You see: unconsciously incompetent → becoming conscious that you're incompetent → going to consciously competent → and then eventually when you're just flying around acting like a bird — it's unconsciously competent.

That's built into the logo, and I hope that's the foundation that I'm building 360MEN on. Because you see, if you look closely at the logo, three — well one is one, two is a couple, three is a few. So another way of interpreting the three of the 360 is “a few men.”

And if you look closely at the six, it's padlocked and it's unlocked. Look closely at the six — it's padlocked and it's unlocked. A few men help unlock the compass of your direction, your passion, your mission, your purpose, your — how does Maslow say it? — your… I can't think of the top of the pyramid now for Maslow… but the logo represents the mission of 360MEN.

And that is to surround you with a peer group, to get peer support, and to have them help unlock the way forward — the directions of the compass setting for you to find fulfillment. And as Maslow would say it — I'm sure I will remember it, I have to go back and look at it — you start at the bottom and you're really struggling to make your means, and then at the top you're finally somebody.

The logo embodies the essence of what I have experienced as a solopreneur. And this is hilarious — this take number five, Angelina. What are you doing on the floor down there? She's trying to find two flip-flops, not one, so she can take the trash out. So I can tell you the rest of the story about how awkward it is to learn how to learn.

So let me try to put this in a few things quickly. One, my cellphone battery was dying last night, meaning that it went into power-saving mode while I was recording that in a beautiful sunset. Second, the image that I was using — the logo file did not have the keyhole, so I had to boot my computer and upload to the server and download to my phone. Third, I'm trying to do this in some way that you'll be able to repeat — which is editing this stuff on your cell phone, right? Being able to do this while you're running around. And I'm used to editing film and video and all that stuff on computers and on editors, so not on the cell phone. So that's awkward for me.

I broke the neck off this little tripod holder thing. And the light that I was using — this little nice little light — the batteries went dead, so I had to recharge that. Meanwhile the sun set and I couldn't remember Maslow's top of the hierarchy being self-actualization, so I was gonna dub that over or title that over.

So once it was there… anything else? It's having to do it in the morning. Oh yeah, we're supposed to be leaving and going somewhere else this morning with everything.

My point being: this is the messy process. And the 360 — a few men surrounding yourself to help you through those triggers, to understand what they are, to be able to reframe them, to improve your content, to get feedback on what you've missed, to reframe your attitude — all of those kinds of things — and then to be able to syndicate the whole thing out there.

Okay, that's what 360MEN in part is about, and that's what's embodied in the logo.

And is that correct, Angelina? Is it still a Gerber flip-flop? Alright, I think we're gonna pack and go.

**Monomyth Stage:** 02 - Call to Adventure
**Gameboard Position:** Camp -3: The Call to Adventure
**MA5 Domain:** None
**Summary:** Daniel unpacks the intentional symbolism of the 360MEN logo using his glider-flying experience and the Four Stages of Competence, while live-demonstrating how messy real learning actually is amid technical failures and daily interruptions.
**Key Insight:** True growth requires surrounding yourself with “a few good men” who unlock your internal compass and help you move from unconscious incompetence through conscious competence toward effortless self-actualization — failing forward together instead of struggling alone.
**Narrative Significance:** This video elevates the Call to Adventure by giving the 360MEN project its first clear symbolic architecture and explicitly naming the messy, iterative nature of masculine maturation that will define the entire Scotomaville / Initium journey.
