summary: "At Lake Corpus Christi State Park, Daniel reflects on a day blending productive work with vigorous play — windsurfing in gusty conditions that launched him hard enough to bruise or crack a rib. Far from discouraging him at age 63, the injury sparks gratitude and storytelling about past “healing from play” episodes: surfing wipeouts in Maui, falling off a glacier, and multiple kiteboarding Superman crashes. He advocates for embracing fun that sometimes hurts, using natural Arnica gel for recovery instead of pharmaceuticals, and encourages other men to pursue activities that create great stories and keep them fully alive."
keypoints:
  - "Healthy longevity comes from balancing hard work with equally hard play — even when play results in physical injury"
  - "At 63, Daniel refuses to slow down; this rib injury is one of 5–6 memorable ones from adventurous pursuits (surfing, glacier fall, kiteboarding)"
  - "Kiteboarding “Superman” crashes illustrate how sudden gusts can launch a rider 30 feet before slamming them onto the beach, breaking ribs and more"
  - "Natural recovery with Arnica gel (Montana-sourced, available at Walmart) works effectively for him without relying on painkillers or anti-inflammatories"
  - "Men should actively pursue activities that bring joy and stories, even if they occasionally “hurt so good” — what are you waking up wishing you could still do?"

### Original YouTube Description

Healthy food and exercise are a part of longevity. One of the benefits of managing your own enterprise and being on the road is that you can work hard at play between sessions at work. Daniel Comp has so much fun he bruises or breaks a rib. But that's nowhere near the first time he's had so much fun. This makes about 5-6 he can recall. Glacier fall, kite-boarding, surfing... hmmm. At 63 he's nowhere near giving up healing from play. What do you wake up wishing you could do? What's holding you back from having so much fun it hurts? Join the conversation at [http://360MEN.net](http://360MEN.net)

**Daniel:**
I’m thinking it’s been a pretty good day so far. A little bit of work in between. More work when I get back. Good wind. Swallows. Cycling. It’s a good day.

She wants me to talk about my old man. Bruised rib from getting launched again from the gusty wind here. I know, I know — you’re not supposed to sail downwind of trees and land. But this little harbor is so tempting because it’s flat water. You know, I make believe that you’re in the Caribbean. It’s 92 degrees outside and the wind’s blowing at 8 to 28 or more. Back-winded. Swirly, gusty, converging. Yeah.

What did you think you did today? Ow, ow, ow, ow. Hey. Okay. What’d you do?

Well, it wasn’t the board that went crack when I landed on my boom. It was my rib. And it hurt. I mean, a little weenie. ‘Cause now I gotta rub this artichoke in. You broke another rib? Well, at least cracked it or separated. Yeah, probably, ‘cause when you breathe you go “ow.”

And what did you do the last time this happened? You mean what was I doing when I broke? I’ve broken a bunch of ribs. First time I broke two was surfing. Went off the top. Fell all the way. Landed on the board. Crack. That was with David in Maui.

I broke two on this side when I fell off the glacier. I broke — it was two kiteboarding. Yeah, I got Superman’d and broke two over here.

What does that mean for people who don’t understand kiteboarding? What does that mean? Kiteboarding? That’s when you tie yourself to a big kite in the air and when the gust comes it makes you look like Superman. And then it quits at about 30 feet in the air. So then you fall onto your chest on the beach and things go break. And you break fillings because your clenched teeth hit the beach and you’re a mess. A lot of people break bones all over. I just got two ribs and a finger.

So why are you using Arnica? ‘Cause it seems to work good on me and I don’t need painkillers and all those other CBD weird things or the anti-inflammatory stuff. Just Arnica — it’s Montana. In a gel. Walmart. Always works really well on me. Try it.

Anything else you want to add on? Yeah. You should go do this. It’s fun. Get some good stories.

**CODEX ENTRY**

**Date:** 2018-05-03
**File:** 360MEN HEALING from PLAY.md
**Monomyth Stage:** 06 - Tests, Allies, Enemies
**Gameboard:** Camp 2: Tests, Allies, Enemies
**MA5 Domain:** None
**Summary:** Daniel laughs through fresh rib pain from windsurfing while recounting a lifetime of “healing from play” — surfing wipeouts in Maui, glacier falls, and dramatic kiteboarding Superman crashes — affirming that vigorous fun remains essential at 63 and should not be surrendered even when it hurts.
**Key Insight:** True vitality and longevity for men include working hard at play; the best stories and greatest aliveness often come from activities that occasionally break bones — the willingness to risk minor injury keeps the spirit young and the peloton motivated.
**Narrative Significance:** This light-hearted yet defiant vignette adds color and humanity to the early 360MEN vision. It counters the grind of entrepreneurship and road life with celebration of embodied joy, modeling for other men the courage to pursue what makes them come alive — even if it means waking up sore and rubbing Arnica gel into another battle scar from living fully.
