question: "Is Daniel's 1979 St. Mary's Glacier fall in the Accidents in North American Mountaineering book?"

# The Fall the Book Didn't Record

On Nov 3, 2026, at the Hood River library, Daniel found *Accidents in North American Mountaineering* on the shelf beside him. The 1980 volume records the climbing accidents of 1979, sorted by state and then by date. In Colorado it lists Mt. Royal on July 2, Lumpy Ridge on July 15, and Red Peak on August 5.

His own fall on St. Mary's Glacier, about July 16, 1979, belongs between Lumpy Ridge and Red Peak, and it isn't there. Rocky Mountain Rescue carried him out. He spent days in Denver and Boulder hospitals, got his mobility back on the third night, and walked home.

The irony is in the next entry. Red Peak is also a fall on snow, unroped, and it names a John Wood. The book recorded the falls it was told about. His went unrecorded, and he lived anyway.

Most real journeys leave no printed witness. The gap isn't the story. Getting back up is the story. Daniel calls finds like this providential footprints.
