# The Missions Terminal: A Cassette Kiosk Linking Missionaries and Their Church

**Claim supported:** During his YWAM years in Tacoma (from 1982, per the Dec 1987 résumé), Daniel designed and built display work, including a "Missions Terminal" kiosk (Daniel's account: for First Presbyterian Church, Tacoma).

## The story
Long before email, Daniel built a way for a church to hear from the missionaries it supported. His portfolio board shows the "Missions Terminal": a lit display wall under track lights, with a "Mission Note" sign, a panel of photos, and two cassette machines labelled for listening and recording. A man stands at the controls in the main photo and in a smaller inset.

The board's own caption explains the idea. One machine plays informal "letters" recorded by a missionary, and the other records short greetings back. It's a simple, two-way voice link that sits in the church itself.

Daniel's account is that he did this work during his YWAM years and built the kiosk for First Presbyterian Church, Tacoma. That church's Senior Pastor, Dr. Joseph Stephens, is a reference on Daniel's December 1987 résumé. His quote there, though, is about a home remodel, not the kiosk, so the page doesn't tie the pastor to this project.

A second photo shows related craft: an arched oak alcove with a built-in bench, beside a curved run of folding panels carrying two small black plaques. The larger plaque, best read through blur, quotes a race passage in the style of 1 Corinthians 9:24–26. Whether it belongs to the same project is still open.

## What the page shows
- Caption, exactly: "Missions Terminal / This is a simple system to link the missionary with the local church. This display features two audio cassette machines—a player to hear informal "letters" from the missionary and a recorder for short greetings/encouragements to the missionary. The display also has room for photos, maps, etc."
- Sign on the display: "Mission Note." The machine labels read "LISTEN" and "RECO[RD]" (partly hidden).
- Alcove photo, larger plaque (blurred; best reading, not certain): "In a race, everyone runs but only one person gets first prize. So run your race to win. To win the contest you must deny yourselves many things that would keep you from doing your best. An athlete goes to all this trouble just to win a blue ribbon or a silver cup, but we do it for a heavenly reward that never disappears. So I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step."
- Smaller plaque: two lines, too blurred to read.
- Résumé, p.2: "Dr. Joseph Stephens - Senior Pastor, 1st Presbyterian Church": "During our recent home remodel, Dan provided several services for us…"
