## The story
Every boy near a highway knows the signal. Daniel's account is that as a boy in Fremont he sat on the backyard fence beside the Nimitz Freeway and pumped his arm, and passing truckers pulled their air horns for him. He lived there with his stepfather, Charles Comp, and he says his Cub Scout stories began in that house.

Today's aerial map shows the spot. A row of houses backs straight onto I-880, with a red circle on the back fence line and the house number marked (blurred in this copy). The map's place name points to a nearby landmark, the "Former Fremont Dragstrip finish line" of the Baylands Raceway.
