What
Witness is for
Witness is a private workshop on your computer for putting real life into words and into a local knowledge barn. You talk or type with AI that helps you see and file things; you decide what becomes a lasting deposit. It is not a social feed. Stories stay on this machine until you choose a later, controlled share path.
What you carry back
After hard work—formation talk, scars, practice rounds, multi-angle council—what lasts is not a trophy screenshot of “the climb.” What lasts is ordinary gear: a local vault and CODEX you can reopen; a corpus index you (and tools on this machine) can search; optional Audience faces that refract your material without replacing your judgment; Initium practice that keeps curiosity disciplined; and, if you choose, a Reader door so named people can ask about what you approved—not the whole workshop floor. That is return-as-tools, not return-as-bragging rights.
What
Witness is not
It is not public by default. Map is not publish. CODEX is not automatically visible to family. There is no forced syndication, no Hermes agent swarm in this shell, and no Lattice connection in this product line. Readers (in the sibling app) do not write into your vault. Unfinished piles and samples are not export fodder. If a path is not in the install, do not invent it.

carbon–silicon partnership
PRIME 541 (Maximally Curious AI, monomyth stage Return with the Elixir) describes a partnership posture: silicon stays the student—better questions, not the proud oracle—while carbon keeps lived judgment, veto, and pace. Witness is one place that posture is practiced: private deposit, human Map and promote, craft and council that help without steering the life. It does not mean the app is autonomous, omniscient, or a substitute for human conscience. The “elixir” here is disciplined curiosity plus preserved scar-truth that can be carried forward—not a magic answer bot.
What other makers get
When someone else runs Witness on their machine, they get their own vault, pipeline, CODEX, settings, and craft setup—not a locked copy of one hero’s archive. Invites labeled Witness-only or Combo exist so guests can install the writer and work their own material (“read yours · write theirs”). Witness Reader is different: it is how authorized people read a snapshot of what a depositor chose to share. Both matter. One spreads the means to deposit and mine a life corpus; the other spreads controlled access to a deposited corpus. Confusing them flattens the return into “consume my summit story.”

- Do not claim Lattice mesh, finished Push UI, or autonomous AI guardianship; claim the private shell that ships.
