Original YouTube Description

Daniel Comp goes windsurfing ALONE at 48 degrees with peaks of 28 miles an hour to talk about having time with other guys if you're on the road. On a cold Canyon Lake morning at Cranes Mill State Park the fog billows off the water. It's warmer in the water than in the gusty northerly wind. Problem is - there are unmarked trees and shrubbery in the lake - just enough to make one want to stay away from the shoreline. Have you ever done something alone - something sketchy - just because it's better than doing NOTHING? You don't have to go-it-alone. Join the conversation at http://360men.net

Daniel: Here's an example of what I'm hoping with 360MEN to help facilitate, and that is where Texas, when Texas does weather, it does it really big. It's April 8th or 9th, something like that. Yesterday it was 85, it's 47 right now. It's blowing at about 20 — yeah, 20 is solid, gusting at 28, 29. So wind chill's pretty nippy.

And of course I'm heading out on the water alone. So one of the things I'd like to facilitate is to get a bunch of guys to do things together — obviously cycling, climbing, expeditions of all sorts, TransAmerica, windsurfing, kite foiling, type boarding, kayaking, fishing, I suppose — all sorts of things together so that we can explore that.

I know the value of it. I've been on TransAmerica cycling three times and I've got a great 5,000-mile ride mapped out I'd like to go with a few other guys. Well, we're a bunch of guys, so yeah — that's what I hope 360MEN's about.

All right, let's go hit the water.

So if you look carefully you can see the steam coming off of the water. It's really gusty and a wind shadow right now behind the spear, so I can even talk to you. Kind of gusty — 14 to 26 — and I'm on again a 4.7, so you gotta have solid wind for that. It's been quite the workout.

Okay, I guess I have to get down. There's still a lot of wind. It's still blowing uh 20, gusting 28. You know, steam on the water, major whitecaps, major gust swirls, backwinds and all.

My gear back on the beach all in one piece. Mowing the lawn a lot of work — that's when you go back and forth, back, forth, back and forth and you're exhausted at the end of it and there's still more to do.

All right, time to go get cleaned up.

That was a good session for today. All right, bye.

So here's the rest of the story on the weather today. It's about 3:30 or so. I can't — you know, Dirk my stuff back, spread it all over the place. It's all outside there. Washed it all up.

And the high is 48 degrees. It was supposed to be 74. They were way wrong. Yesterday was 85. So 17 was kind of a low. The peaks were in the 26 to 28 — I'm certain of that one.

So here's what you do when you're in an Airstream: you've got a mast that's now on a rack stand here blowing inside of the shower after I showered and wetsuit and everything is Venus exhausting so that you can dry that all out. How at the laundromat? So I've got a few minutes.

No, I had no wind to wrap up a point of this video, which is that we're on the road. We're hoping 360MEN that will subscribe will also become available and you'll be able to — like I just thought of Terry Linderman's around here somewhere, I should connect with him. I could have gone out today.

But if you're on the road, wouldn't it be nice to meet up with some guys that you can do stuff with? Or you know, go deep quickly about an issue and not have to try to get to know somebody clear across the country to have a Skype session with you, but have some face time with people in different cities. That's one of the aspects of 360MEN.

So hopefully you'll see that I'm authentic. I have a real desire to put something together and I'd like to have a conversation with those of you that we can meet with about many of the other aspects and benefits to you that you'd find very valuable.

All right, wrap that up.

CODEX ENTRY

Date: 2018-04-09 File: 360MEN Don't get blown away ALONE.md Monomyth Stage: 01 - Ordinary World Gameboard Position: Camp -4: The Ordinary World MA5 Domain: None Summary: Through a raw, cold windsurfing session done alone on Canyon Lake, Daniel demonstrates the real cost of isolation on the road and contrasts it with the communal vision of 360MEN — turning solo sketchy adventures into safe, meaningful shared expeditions among men. Key Insight: Doing something alone, even when risky, beats doing nothing — but men were never meant to face the accelerating changes ahead without brothers beside them for both action and deep conversation. Narrative Significance: This scene deepens the Ordinary World by showing Daniel living the very problem he seeks to solve: solo road life versus the peloton of mutual support. It grounds the 360MEN invitation in tangible, windswept reality and authentic personal effort.
